Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about our personal alarms, monitoring and care services in Jersey
GPS personal alarms
-
A GPS personal alarm is a small wearable device, worn as a pendant or a watch, that lets the wearer call for help at the push of a button wherever they are. Built-in GPS shows where they are, so help can be sent to the right place.
-
When the button is pressed, the alarm connects to our operations centre here in Jersey, which is staffed 24 hours a day. Our operator speaks to the wearer through the alarm and arranges the right help, whether that is a family member, one of our responders or the emergency services.
-
With family monitoring, the alarm calls a list of nominated family members or friends instead of our operations centre. If the first contact does not answer, it moves on to the next and skips voicemail. It works best when your contacts are reliably available to take an SOS call.
-
The alarm has automatic fall detection. If it detects a fall, it calls for help on its own without the button being pressed. No fall detector can pick up every fall, so we always recommend pressing the button if possible.
-
Yes. The alarm is fully mobile and works using the mobile network, so it can be used at home, in the garden, in the car or out and about anywhere on the island.
-
Yes. The alarm is water resistant and designed to be worn in the shower, which is one of the most common places for a fall.
-
Up to 7 days for the pendant and up to 6 days for the watch. If the geo-fence (safe zone) feature is switched on, battery life is around 2 to 3 days. The family app shows the battery level and sends a low-battery alert.
-
Yes. The free family and friends app lets you request their current location, see their last 8 locations, check battery and signal, set safe zones with alerts, review alarm activity and chat securely with other family members.
-
Both have the same core features, including the SOS button, fall detection, GPS and two-way talk. The watch can also give up to 3 medication reminders a day, while the pendant has a slightly longer battery life.
-
Our 24/7 monitored GPS alarm plans start from £35 per month. Family monitoring has a small ongoing fee to cover emergency calls and SIM card costs. Call us on 01534 828720 for a quote.
-
Yes. Many of our customers are family members arranging an alarm for someone they love, and a personal alarm makes a thoughtful Christmas or birthday gift. Get in touch and we will help you choose the right device and monitoring option and get it set up. It is worth talking to your relative first so they are happy to wear it.
Live monitoring
-
Live home monitoring uses sensors and monitoring equipment in the home, linked to our secure system and supervised by our trained team, so that problems are spotted early and the right help is sent quickly.

Responder services
-
Your alarm sends an immediate alert to our control centre. A responder speaks with you, listens to what you need and assesses the situation, then coordinates the right response while they are on their way to you.
-

Welfare checks
-
A welfare check is a regular visit from our welfare team to make sure your family member is safe and well, and enjoying a fulfilling and happy life. Each visit is shaped around their own needs.
-
We check on your loved one's wellbeing and, if you would like, inspect key areas of the home such as the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom for hazards, cleanliness and tidiness. We also check that any equipment we have provided, such as pendant alarms and base units, is working properly and fully charged.
-
We work closely with the Older Adult Community Services Team, local GPs, occupational therapists, your home care provider and charities including the Alzheimer's Association, Mind and Hospice, so every part of your family member's wellbeing is looked after.

Our team handles family and client concerns with sensitivity and makes sure each one is resolved in the most appropriate way. Just get in touch and let us know.
